About Reinette

Have you ever found yourself immersed in a dream so vast that the mere thought of it gives rise to butterflies in your stomach? Many of our dreams may initially appear unattainable, even unlikely, but with unwavering focus and diligent effort, the realization of those dreams becomes inevitable.

Several years ago, I stood as a teacher in a quaint primary school, nestled in a small town. It took a poignant tale to profoundly shift my perspective on life. Serving as a 5th-grade teacher and the head of the grade, I found myself in a situation where all the teachers approached me with grievances about a particular boy who consistently neglected his homework. This led to a meeting with his mother.

During the meeting, as I detailed the teachers’ concerns to the mother, I sensed a need to delve deeper into their circumstances. I discovered that she owned a bar in town, prompting a vivid image in my mind of the boy attempting to complete his homework amid a crowd of inebriated patrons. This realization, just before a school holiday, urged me to propose something unconventional.

Led by a sense of empathy, I suggested to the mother that she spend a day of the upcoming holiday with her son. Although initially unimpressed, she revealed she had already planned to attend her other son’s rugby match. Though she declined, I left with a more profound understanding of the boy’s challenges.

As the school holidays unfolded, tragedy struck. I had to break the devastating news to my netball team that their friend, the boy in question, had passed away that morning. This incident shook me to my core, underscoring the importance of not losing sight of the meaningful aspects of life—family, friends, and quality time. Surprisingly, the boy’s mother and I formed a strong friendship.

Months later, I implored the Lord to guide me in sharing this transformative message with the world. The opportunity arose when a friend shared an entry form for Mrs. Africa on my Facebook page. Despite initial reservations about being an ordinary woman in a competition meant for models, I became a finalist and, to my astonishment, was crowned Mrs. Africa 2019 in December 2018.

This title opened doors to numerous opportunities—radio and TV interviews, news articles, and speaking engagements where I could motivate and inspire. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that God calls us by our names, not by our titles. Now, my focus is on continuing my role as a motivational speaker, providing finishing courses for young girls, and being a mom and a teacher who assigns minimal homework. I aim to spread hope wherever I go (Col 3:23).

I encourage you never to abandon your dreams. Even when they seem insurmountable, hold onto positivity, for there is immense power in words. Life and death reside in the tongue. While making a difference in the lives of others, also cherish time with your loved ones, for life is fleeting.
